Monteriggioni

September 2008

Monteriggioni is a walled village with turrets, now, another tourist village. The photos show our approach, time within the town, and departure the next day for Siena. In The Inferno, Dante referred to Monteriggioni:

As with circling round

Of turrets, Montereggion crowns his walls;

E’en thus the shore, encompassing the abyss,

Was turreted with giants, half their length

Uprearing, horrible, whom Jove from heaven

Yet threatens, when his muttering thunder rolls.
