Roussillon

May 2015

Roussillon, a city surrounded by ochre cliffs, is itself sited upon a hill. The walls of its buildings are painted with the ochre shades of orange and yellow. From here we cycled through vineyards with red, ochre-infused soil, and through the small villages of Villars and Rustrel. We were now away from the Mistral, yet hills offered another challenge. On a second day we cycle as far as Gordes, though exhausted, we opted for a van ride to the Sénanque Abbey, arriving in time for the midday mass, complete with Gregorian chants.
