Museums, Art, and Monuments in Vienna

June 2014

The art museums are amazing! We were treated to Rubens, Holbein, Bruegel, Rembrandt, Klimt, Schiele, and Egyptian, Greek, Roman masterpieces--the list could go on. Not only does the city boast great artwork, but the museums are also among the best for display. We attended a Mozart concert, though this was far too touristy than we'd like. Photography and videotaping were prevalent, something we'd never expect at a classical concert in the U.S. Indeed, the tickets forbade it, but the Chinese tourists had their cameras and iPhones out, taping the event without official rebukes. Flashes even went off! Yet the music was wonderful and the acoustics, amazing. So we tried to ignore the intrusions and enjoyed the music. Sunday we attended a Schubert mass at the magnificent Hofburgkapelle with the Vienna Boys' Choir. Again there were rude audience members, but we blocked them out. I'd never been to a mass, so this was interesting also from a religious point of view.
