Villa Romana del Casale
at Piazza Armerina
Villa Romana del Casale is perhaps the finest example of Roman mosaics anywhere. Built in the 4th century AD but covered by a mudslide in the 12th century, the site remained covered until the early 19th century. Today UNESCO protects this incredible treasure.
