The Route to Antigua

February 2014

Along the route we stopped in Santa Apolonia Chimaltenango, where we watched a demonstration by Doña Bacilia, a 70 year-old potter, the last in her village to use a traditional method to make very simple pots that look like those made millennia ago.

We visited the public laundry in Patcizia, where women and girls hand wash their clothes (and sometimes the clothes of wealthier residents).

The next stop was at a brick and tile maker in El Tejar Chimaltenango. Mud is stamped by feet, then shaped in wooden frames for patio and roof tiles.
