Synagogues still stand in Obuda and Pest, with memorials at the Dohány Synagogue (the largest synagogue in Europe) and along the Danube (the “shoes” memorial was visible only after the flood waters receded). According to the online Jewish Virtual Library, there are approximately 80,000 Jews in Budapest today. In 1941, it was estimated that there were 246,000.
