Budapest Art and Sculpture

June 2013

Budapest is filled with buildings and squares adorned with sculptures honoring heroes, writers, musicians, and artists. We visited the Hungarian National Gallery (the interior is modern within the reconstructed royal palace exterior); the permanent collection was not inspiring, however an exhibit of cartoons by József Faragó and another, “Hungarian Art Photography in the New Millennium,” were worth seeing. We also visited two small galleries: the Mission Art Gallery, with a permanent collection of works by Pál Pátzay and a temporary exhibit of photographs by Ujj Zsuzsi; and the Mai Manó House, Hungarian House of Photography, where an exhibit, “Budapest Remake,” featured photos by Klösz György (1900) and Lugosi Lugo László (2000).
