Monsaraz

Monsaraz is still the charming village on an Alentejo hill about olive groves. We stayed once again in the Estalagem de Monsaraz, a small inn with a lovely view and a small swimming pool. This time (returning after six years), we walked on the path dubbed “Writings in Stone and Lime,” going down from the hill town to the plain, through villages, fields, and orchards, past a convent and upright stones (menhirs) of an ancient cromlech (cromeleque).  A small dog joined us for more than two hours, abandoning us before we began our ascent back to the hill town.
