We made a short detour to Cacela Velha, a Moor-settled village about 12 km east of Tavira. With streets named for poets, the village seems a natural spot for writing and contemplation. On a wall is this poem:
When the dawn comes, she sleeps and keeps her perfume as a miser
When night falls, spread it and exhale it
Ibn Darraj al-Qastalli poet of Cacela 958-1030
