We began our Peruvian adventure in Lima, a modern city, especially the Miraflores section, where we stayed at the Hotel Señorial. Yet there are still ancient, pre-Incan ruins within walking distance of new apartment buildings and Spanish-influenced buildings in the colonial center dating from the 16th through 18th centuries. Winter in Lima is misty, due to the garua, yet we saw the sun briefly upon our return at the end of our travels. It was gloriously clear throughout our time in the Andes.
