Arriving from Polynesia before the Europeans, the Maori now make up about 15% of the population of New Zealand. Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand. The standard greeting for New Zelanders (Kiwis) is Kia Ora.  We learned about some of their customs from our tour guide at Te Puia in Rotorua, where we also watched the Powhiri Ceremony, dances, and songs.
