Oxford was home to William Faulkner, and the campus of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) is near the main square. We stayed at the 5 Twelve B&B on Van Buren Avenue and took pleasant walks along a rail trail; around the campus; to the square; to Rowan Oak, Faulkner’s home; and to the home of Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar, U.S. Representative, Senator, Secretary of the Interior, and Justice of the Supreme Court. Both Faulkner’s and Lamar’s homes have been preserved and renovated to serve as a museums celebrating their lives and work.
