Levada Canical to

Porto Da Cruz

Day 3: We took a taxi to a junction of the levada (irrigation canal), where we began our trek, weaving in and out as the levada and path followed the sides of mountain “hollows,” past small farm plots. We then left the levada for a climb up to Boca do Risco (Mouth of Danger), where we stopped for lunch and to watch several mountain bikers round a portion of the precarious route for the Enduro World Series Mountain Biking Race. The northern coast of Madeira then opens out, and we worked our way along the cliff paths and finally down to the village of Porto da Cruz.
