The Route to

St. Hippolyte

September 2017

The route from Dambach-la-Ville took us on a flat road that is one of the Chemins de Compostelle, with traditional scallop shell markings. We walked through the village of Châtenois, in the valley below castles, one of which is Haut Koenigsbourg. We walked part of the way up to the castle, but took a bus for the final, long and difficult ascent. Haut Koenigsbourg was built in the 12th century and restored by Kaiser Wilhelm II in the beginning of the 20th century. Rain drove us indoors, but clearing skies enabled us to have views of the valley and St. Hippolyte. We stayed at Hostellerie Munsch, where we dined on a set menu (printed for each guest) of Amuse Bouche, Salade de Magret de Canard, Quasi de Veau Rôti, and Entremet Chocolat Banane.
