Lakehurst Naval Air Base, now part of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, is site of the Hindenburg crash in 1937. Members of the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society conducted a tour of the crash site; of the enormous Hangar No. 1, built to service large airships; and of the museum dedicated to naval aviation.

In the afternoon we walked on part of the Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Freehold.
