Block Island

August 2014

These include five photos from Stonington, CT, where we happened on the Bicentennial Celebration of the Battle of  Stonington (War of 1812), while en route to the ferry at Point Judith, RI, as well as one photo from Narragansett, RI, where we stopped on the way home.

We stayed on the southwest side of Block Island in a farmhouse built in 1812, once used as a honey farm, but now the home of an island artist. Much of the island has been preserved and managed by the Nature Conservancy, the Block Island Conservancy, and the Block Island Land Trust (all working together). There are approximately 28 miles of Greenway trails, many dirt roads, and relatively lightly-traveled roads for walking and biking. The eastern beaches are broad and the water, shallow, excellent for all ages. The western beaches are rocky, with fewer visitors, but still pleasant for walking.

Photos with island animals and flowers are linked here. Family photos are on our Flickr page. For information, email us.
