Maine and Massachusetts

August 2013

We enjoyed visiting family and friends, and also managed a little exercise. We twice bicycled along the carriage roads of Acadia and into the harbor towns of Mt. Desert Island. We hiked from Sieur de Monts along the Tarn, up Canon Brook Trail to Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail to the summit of Cadillac, then down the North Ridge Trail. We learned about the variety of ferns in the Wild Gardens of Acadia (see separate page) and relaxed at Schooner Point.

We visited the Farnsworth Museum and Homestead in Rockland; the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum, the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick; and had fish chowder at the Dolphin in Harpswell.

We walked in part of Watertown, Massachusetts, around Walden Pond, and in the MIT neighborhood of Cambridge along the Charles River.
