Kyra Carlile Williams, was married on June 2 at The Oaks in Royal Oak, Maryland, to Joshua Asher Shapiro. Rabbi Joel Braude and Reverend Michael Morse co-officiated at the Eastern Shore waterfront garden ceremony. The ceremony was followed by dinner and dancing on the docks at The Oaks.

The bride is the daughter of Jane C. Hilder and Roberton C. Williams of Alexandria, Virginia. The groom's parents are Dr. and Mrs. Daniel W. Shapiro of Princeton Junction, New Jersey.

The bride is a graduate of Burgundy Farm Country Day School and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. She graduated from Williams College, magna cum laude, in 1998 and received a medical degree in May from the University of Virginia. She has just begun a residency in Obstetric and Gynecology at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The groom attended West Windsor-Plainsboro High School and is also a 1998 summa cum laude graduate of Williams College. He was a Fulbright Scholar in 1999 Tasmania, Australia, where he did research in marine biology, and is now a graduate student in evolutionary biology at the University of Chicago.

The couple met in the fall of 1996 while attending the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program at Mystic, Connecticut. They are currently residing in Chicago after a wedding trip to Hawaii. Dr. Williams is keeping her maiden name.

The bride and groom hosted a sail up the Miles River on an historic skipjack for the wedding party on June 1. A crab feast for all wedding guests followed at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland, given by the groom's parents.

Members of the wedding party included the bride's brother and sister, Rob Williams of Austin, Texas, and Aimee Williams of Alexandria, Virginia, as well as the groom's brother and sister, David Shapiro of Philadelphia and Rachel Shapiro of Arlington, Massachusetts. Other bridesmaids were Dr. Elisa Beres of Clifton, Virginia and Michele Rogers, Abby Serfass, and Julia Sunderland, all of California. Ty Summers of Chicago and Seth Battis of Tennessee were groomsmen.
